Check the configuration of the UTP connected to your computer.
- Check if your network devices has an old model, may be a switch or router. Old networking models in the 1990's or early 2000 models has UTP specification on connecting devices. We all know that UTP cable has three standard splicing configurations. The rollover, crossover and straight through configuration. These old models is very specific on this. This might be a problem why you cannot connect network computers. If a router is connect directly to another router in your network, then the connection we are going to use is crossover. Because as a rule, the same devices means crossover connection. If computer to router connection, we will use straight through and rollover UTP cable for configuring manageable routers like Cisco.
But with today's technology, new standards for networking devices has been evolve. An automatic detection of networking devices has been initiated. No matter what kind of networking devices connection you have, you need not to worry because it automatically connects.
So if you are you are using old networking models like switch or router, better to check it. Follow the standard rules.
Check the TCP/IP configurations.
- Another thing to consider is your TCP/IP configuration. Just make sure you are in the same network to the computer you want to connect. Try to see your IP address if it has the same network with the one you want to connect. Type ipconfig in the command line or in the Control Panel-> Network Connection -> LAN properties. For example, if your ip is 192.168.0.10 and your target computer is 192.168.11.1 then you cannot connect to it. Change your ip to 192.168.11.10 and try to ping command if you got replies.
Be sure to start all services for networking in your computer.
- For windows system computer, be sure to start all services related to networking. It might have cause this problem where you cannot connect a network computer. In windows xp you can find services in the Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services. In windows 7 or 8, networking services is you will have to enable network discovery in the Control Panel->Network Center and Sharing. Enable network discovery if it is disabled.
The computer you want to connect might have a virus or malware.
- Computer viruses or malware will also attack your network protocols in your system. This king of viruses or malware is very hard to remove because it runs on your network and continuous to propagate. You will have to take time for the virus and malware to be remove.
Some computer virus uses your firewall so that you cannot connect. If your firewall is on, usually we can ping and get replies. But if that computer is infected with that virus, you cannot ping to that computer which is very strange. You will have to turn off the firewall on that computer so that you can ping to it.
That's it guys. I hope this one helps. Thanks.
